When I was a young man in college I had an adviser give me a great piece of advice. I was struggling with my budget at the time. Trying to pay for college, apartment, car, and food was getting to be a stretch. We talked for awhile about things I could do but the only thing I now remember from the conversation was this, “There are only two ways to balance your budget. Increase Revenue or Decrease Spending.”

In my thirteen years in the industry, I’ve had a lot of conversations with doctors, administrators, and other industry professionals. When asked about the business side of the practice, I keep hearing that doctors are either uninterested or unskilled. It’s a wide consensus that doctors often ignore the business side as long as the bills are paid and they have a decent salary (whatever their definition of decent is).
